An image for Studio Eclypse's upcoming Berserk anime project has been released on social media, hyping up the show's imminent trailer.
Officially released by Studio Eclypse, the image gives another look at what Berserk: The Black Swordsman will look and feel like. A fan-made animated adaptation, the upcoming show is meant to be a more accurate take on the material compared to the infamous 2016 Berserk anime, with the latter panned by many audience members. While the fan anime's release date has not yet been announced, the new image tides fans over as they await a full reveal.

Studio Eclypse's New Berserk: The Black Swordsman Image Shows More of Guts
The second key visual for the upcoming Berserk: The Black Swordsman anime, posted on the official Studio Eclypse X (formerly Twitter) account, showcases main character Guts charging through a desolate forest full of seemingly wilted trees without leaves. Crouching while holding his trusted Dragon Slayer sword, the image provides a static look at the show's 2D animation in action. The post also promises that the trailer for the series will be coming out soon. The first major teaser was released in November 2023, with the first key visual released in late December.
As the name suggests, Berserk: The Black Swordsman adapts the first story arc from the manga source material. Despite this, the arc wasn't used in the original 1997 Berserk anime, which instead pulled from later stories in the series. While points from the "Black Swordsman" arc were utilized in the 2016 Berserk anime, that show was as a whole controversial and widely disliked due to its questionable technical quality and animation style. Studio Eclypse has promised that the new series will be a faithful rendition of the manga's story, with the 2D animation intended to keep the CGI mistakes of the 2016 version from being repeated while accurately recreating the art style of the original manga. This aesthetic can therefore be seen in the above new key visual.

Berserk Remains One of the Biggest Manga and Anime Franchises Despite Its Age
While the 2016 anime series might have been controversial, Berserk as a whole is still an incredibly popular franchise. The manga has remained a bestseller, with the worldwide growth in the manga/anime fandom seeing it reach new heights in the West in particular. The news surrounding the upcoming Berserk: The Black Swordsman anime comes on the heels of the release of the classic 1997 anime on Blu-ray, with the collection becoming a hit on Amazon.
The manga has also returned to publication following the death of creator Kentaro Miura. Known for its dark, edgy aesthetic and storytelling, Berserk is a far cry from many of the fantasy and isekai manga/anime of the modern era. Nevertheless, the riveting story has allowed it to remain a popular property throughout the decades and amass a legion of fans. The production of Berserk: The Black Swordsman is further proof of the dedication of this fandom.
