Poll: Do You Prefer Blush Or Bronzer?
As I was applying makeup the other day, I realized that there’s little to no blush to be found in my cosmetics bag. Just lots of bronzer. Which got me to wondering whether I’m the only beauty gal who prefers bronzer over blush. Believe me, I have a very good reason for it, too!
I personally tend to go for bronzer as I’m slightly scarred from childhood memories of being forced to wear high amounts of an extra bright pink shade from my mother’s vast makeup collection. I was a proud member of Miss Debbie’s School of Dance and when it came time for our dance recitals, the mothers took no time in beating our faces to over-made-up perfection. As proof, see Exhibit A below of myself and fellow dance mate Elizabeth striking a pose before a recital. Looking at this (and other photos) of my overly pink cheeks now make me shudder.
Hence I tend to avoid blush as though it were the plague. (But I must admit that much like Petra, I’m slightly obsessed with the cult classic shade Orgasm from NARS, but I only like it in the cream stick form called The Multiple.)
Recently, I attended a fun CoverGirl event and even let their celebrity makeup artist Molly Stern apply a bit of the CoverGirl Simply Ageless Sculpting Blush on my cheeks. I was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t look too bad! When I asked her what other beauty gals should consider when it comes to picking between blush or bronzer, she simply replied that the only thing you should consider is your mood.
“Are you feeling like you want a more all over sunkissed glow or are pinched rosy cheeks more the vibe of the day?,” she said.
Hmm….bronzer does tend to remind me of beaches and fun, far away tropical places but there are days when I feel like the equivalency of rosy. Maybe it’s time I let go of this whole “I’m only going to use bronzer” idea and start looking into using more blush (starting with these that you suggested for Petra. They look amazing on her).
So then, it’s a battle of the cheekbones! We all know that glamming up your cheeks is a major part of the “getting all made up and pretty” process and (as Baze attests to) will instantly add a zing of liveliness to your beauty look.
