Jessica Simpson has always been a beacon of body positivity and confidence. However, her weight fluctuations, which often were mercilessly broadcast in the tabloids throughout the 2000s, may have been what made her the fashion business mogul she is today. Currently Simpson’s retail empire is worth approximately a billion dollars, according to Bloomberg, and if it weren’t for her own experiences, she says, perhaps she wouldn’t be as successful as she is.

As first reported by People Style, Simpson shares her feelings in an upcoming CBS Sunday Morning segment, emphasizing that the ethos of her brand is about making every kind of woman feel great. “It’s very important for me to let every woman feel included,” Simpson says. “If I make a shirt, I’m going to make sure every size is available. Because I have been every size, trust me.”

She also talked about the positive reaction people are surprised to have about her fashion line, saying, “People are shocked that they like my brand. Maybe because it’s not that expensive? Or maybe because I was a cheesy pop star back in the day. I have no idea.”

That kind of candor, especially from someone as famous and talked about as Simpson is (we do still talk about Newlyweds today), is refreshing to hear, especially as women continue to fall in step with the body-positivity movement online and IRL.
