Kate Hudson Recalls Her Questionable Gown Choice At The 2001 Oscars: So Was It A Do Or A Don’t?
Earlier this week at the British Fashion Awards Kate Hudson presented her pal Stella McCartney with the “Red Carpet Award”; an honor which recognizes a designer’s ability to make celebs look like goddesses on the red carpet year after year. In her speech, Kate recounted an instance when Stella’s judgement came under fire, however. It was the 2001 Academy Awards, and Kate’s first Stella McCartney dress (and Oscar nomination), and much to her surprise she ended up on all the “Worst Dressed” lists! Come hear the story and tell me whether you think the look was a Do or a Don’t.
Kate’s story, as recounted by Vogue UK,
“Stella dressed me for my first red carpet event in 2001 for the Academy Awards. It was my first and only nomination. I was 21-years-old and to have Stella McCartney dressing me – well I felt like the hippest, coolest girl in the world. Up until the last minute Stella was working away, hand-sewing the hem. I woke up the next morning in my bed post-awards and without a little statuette on my bedside. I turned on the television to find out I was on every Worst Dressed list possible. So I called Stella and we just laughed our arses off and she said to me, “Look babe, it was the hair wasn’t it?”
Personally, I think Stella is right! A sleek updo would have done wonders for that daring dress. And guess what? We just might get see that revision made; Kate wrapped up her speech by saying, “To this day that now vintage dress hangs in my wardrobe, but I swear one day I’ll wear it again. But Stella, I promise I’ll do the hair differently.”
