Pantone Announces “Tangerine Tango” Is The Official Color Of 2012
Knock knock. Who’s there? Orange! Orange who? Orange’ya glad tangerine tango is the official color of 2012, according to the Pantone Color Institute?!
The world’s foremost color authority just announced its selection of the juicy hue yesterday, replacing 2011’s more subdued Honeysuckle as the color to wear.
The reddish-orange is all about warm, energetic vibes, as their press release tells it: “Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”
We’ve already seen it on the runway for spring 2012 (above, from left): Charlotte Ronson, Tommy Hilfiger, Peter Som, Derek Lam, and if you’re itching to get it into your closet, we recommend starting small, with a pair of shoes, a handbag, or a simple scarf. Then again, no one will fault you for looking like a total ray of sunshine in the coming year if you want to go head-to-toe. Here are a few pieces to get you started:
