Exclusive: Watch RHOC’s Meghan King Edmonds Show the Scary Reality of Her IVF
View on Instagram
Last month, Real Housewives of Orange County star Meghan King Edmonds confirmed that she and husband Jim Edmonds were expecting their first child. Already a stepmom to Jim’s four children from his previous two marriages, Meghan was thrilled to bring a child of her own into their blended family, especially considering the struggles she and her husband faced in trying to conceive. Though Meghan did not have fertility issues, her husband had previously undergone a vasectomy and froze his sperm. In order for the couple to conceive, Edmonds underwent in vitro fertilization—a process that’s been documented throughout this season of RHOC.
As part of the procedure, Edmonds was required to inject herself with hormones in an effort to facilitate fertilization. (The next steps of IVF include egg retrieval and implantation.) The couple was fortunate to get pregnant through IVF on their first try—a recent study showed that only happens about 30 percent of the time—and will welcome a daughter to their family later this year.
In this exclusive clip, Edmonds captures the emotional start to her IVF—documenting the process in a video diary for her husband, who was out of town for spring training at the time—as she undergoes her first round of hormone injections while facing what she calls her “biggest fear in life”: needles.
