Dear Dr. H,

My best friend has recently been diagnosed with herpes. We always raid each other’s closets, but now I have some concerns about sharing clothes with her. Is there any way I can get infected by wearing her clothes?

Read on for Dr. Hilda Hutcherson’s response.

A. There’s no reason to worry; herpes doesn’t live on objects, like clothes. The virus lives within cells, so it can be transferred only through skin-to-skin contact. So go ahead and swap tops–you’re totally safe.
